Bowls Membership

Bowls is played by those of all ages from 9 to 99. All are very welcome to come along and try the game on our excellent green with a splendid clubhouse, bar and other sporting facilities.

Simply wear flat soled shoes, such as trainers, and loose clothing, such as a tracksuit. We will provide the bowls, guidance and of course encouragement!

Open Days for the 2018 season will be announced in March but in the interim we would be happy to fit in an introduction to bowls to suit your timescales! Why not make contact – see below – and try your hand on our indoor short mat and book your place on the green for the start of the new season.

Bowls is one of those sports where it is very easy to have a go and also to enjoy oneself. Like golf and most other sports its gets more complicated as you progress but the fun is always there.

We pride ourselves in our coaching and with two county accredited coaches now well established and always on hand, beginners are assigned to an experienced bowler who will ensure that any questions are answered and guidance given at every turn.

If you would like to come and give bowls a try then contact Peter on, or 01727 864453, or Jane on 01727 812395 and we will arrange a convenient time for you to visit the club.

Monday evenings
A chance to play mixed bowls for points – a great opportunity to gain experience of all aspects of the game, and perhaps to discuss what went right (or wrong!) over a drink afterwards with some new friends. “If only” is how many sentences begin….!

Tuesday afternoons
Mixed “rollup” where balanced teams are picked and 8 “ends” are played. A further 8 ends follow a tea break and a chat in our club house. Points are awarded which go towards the presentation of the Claret Cup (along with a few bottles of best red) at the end of the season.

Most Wednesday afternoons
This is a great opportunity to meet bowlers from other clubs – we play friendly matches – most mixed, some ladies` and some men’s – giving all members a chance to get involved. Most of last season`s new bowlers have competed successfully in the past season in these fixtures.

Thursday afternoons
Mixed roll ups, with a couple of rinks reserved for ladies’ matches. Normally two sessions, with a well earned cup of tea in the middle.

Saturdays / Sundays
Most weekends we have matches against other local clubs on a home and away basis. Most are friendlies, some are more serious than others, but all are played in the pleasant spirit that characterises bowls at all levels!

On a few Sundays during the summer we will have picnics on the green, involving bowls, refreshments, food and plenty of socialising!

Bank holiday weekends
We often have Gala Days normally involving either a club competition or an organised rollup

Club Competitions
Trophies are there to be won in numerous men`s, ladies` and mixed, handicap and open competitions. This year a bowler with only a few weeks` experience won one of our pairs competitions and has the trophy to prove it!

Other Competitions
Individual entries at National, County and District level are encouraged, with teams also entered to represent the club.

Winter season
(October – March) during this period we meet regularly on Tuesday mornings for coffee and biscuits. During these meetings we play cards/ darts /pool or short mat bowls. We also play against other local bowls clubs on their indoor rinks. Most Friday evenings we organise a short mat session in the clubhouse – a great introduction as well as a highly skilled form of indoor bowls.

Bar / Clubhouse
There is a well stocked bar with drinks at club prices which is open most evenings, and before and after matches. Our new clubhouse has two large screen TVs, a pool table and darts board which are available for members and their guests. Bridge and scrabble are played on Wednesday afternoons and quiz nights and other events are also staged occasionally.
